Not worth the trouble

I received this as a gift four months ago, now it doesn’t work. It worked fine for a few months, then it would sometimes start flashing and beeping and not work. For a couple of weeks, I tried making sure it was level and secure, wiped down the counter, stand and bottom of kettle and then it would work. Now it happens every time I try to use it and there’s no getting it to work. If you google this problem, you’ll see it’s quite common. This is a kettle, not complicated - it should just work.

Well, it heats water

The kettle does its main job fine, but for the price I expected a whole lot more. The water gage, located inside the handle, is hard to read while filling. It also fills slower than the actual kettle - so if you depend on the gage you'll overfill the kettle. Once you heat the water it gives multiple beeps at a good volume. But your troubles begin there - the default setting on the kettle is "keep warm". So if you pour out all the water, put it back on the stand, and walk away about 5 seconds later it will start rapidly beeping and what liquid is left in the kettle will start boiling away. They only option we've found then is to take it off the stand and wait a few minutes before putting it back on. Overall, I expected it to be far less annoying and high maintenance for the price. Would I buy it again? No.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Different settings for different teas.

I love our new electric tea kettle. It has different timer options for the different types of tea, which is very nice if you drink different kinds. It’s pretty fast too. Plus it looks sharp. The only think is be careful. The outside can get hot. Only touch the handle.

- A: This Cuisinart is not quiet at all. It takes a lot of time and effort for it to boil so it rumbles like a plane trying to take off for ages. Our previous cheap Hamilton Beach was much faster and quieter. Also, if you keep it away from its base for like half an hour it forgets your preferred settings and just warms up instead of actual boiling. Its default settings are strange and can't be changed. And it doesn't have a battery to remember settings when it's away from its base.5 months agoHelpful?

Q: How does this kettle work at altitude where the boiling point of water is less than 212 degs I live at 4000 feet where water boils at 204.6 degs F, so if the kettle was set to 212 degrees, would it just never switch off?

- A: The heater will not shut off until the water temperature reaches in between 208.4 oF and 212oF (98 oC and 100oC) when CPK-17C is set to “Boil”. The boiling point of water changes at various altitudes. Regarding your question about if the CPK-17C kettle where operates at 4000 feet above the sea level will never shut off when it is set to “Boil” (212oF), it is true that the boiling point of water is 204.3oF (95.7oC) at 4000 feet above the sea level and the heater will not shut off until the boiling water reaches the minimum water level that is detected by the equipped sensor, the heater will then shut off with the lights flash and the kettle will beep to alert the user as well. We suggest you set the kettle to 200oF as this temperature is hot enough for brewing coffee and tea (except black tea only) instead of “Boil” 212oF.12 years agoHelpful?
