Signs of weed death usually occur in the first 1 to 2 weeks in ideal conditions, but a complete kill can take up to 4 weeks. This may take longer if temperatures are high or low. Depending on the type of weed, it may take longer for the weed to die. The more established the weeds are the longer it will take to kill them. If desired, you may repeat the application in 3 to 4 weeks.

For effective weed control, initial signs of wilting and yellowing of new growth usually appear within one to two weeks of using Killex. Q: Is this product still available in Quebec? I want to know if I can buy this product in Canadian Tire stores in Quebec.

A: No, our government went against the scientific knowledge and banned this product for no valid reason (from a health and safety point of view) as long as the product is used as instructed. This was to please environmental lobbies who could not back their arguments with any scientific evidence (they said, as an example, that you find in 2-4,d the same products you find in Agent Orange, which while true does not really mean anything as there is also water in both products and water does not harm people... actually water kills a lot more people every year than 2-4,d so we should perhaps think about banning it too). The result is a large increase of sales for lawnscapers and companies selling earth and compost, as well as seeds, as people have to redo their lawn every 2-3 years or simply decide to remove it and put stones, concrete or synthetic grass (made out of petroleum, that's a good environmental choice. Thanks a lot Greenpeace). Actually, after DOW sued the province of Quebec and arguments were made public, because there was absolutely no evidence for the ban, Québec did agree to ACKNOWLEDGE that the product caused no harm at all. So in the end, no it is not available in Québec legally but it is widely available on the black market at a high price. I suggest you write to your provincial MP to complain about this situation.

Q: Can Killex kill yellow buttercup weed?

A: Not positive about buttercups. I used this product last summer and this year I have very few dandelions and a few spots that are bare because it was just weeds. I only have one small area about 3’ x 3’ where I have a few buttercups. I don’t think I sprayed there because it’s right beside a perennial garden. Last year I had tons of dandelions and miscellaneous weeds. I am really pleased with Killex and plan on spraying again this summer.

Q: If I were to pour some of the concentrate into my original Killex spray bottle, what would be the ratio I would use? (water to concentrate)

A: Unless directions are given on the container you are refilling, we do not suggest refilling or reusing of a previous ready to use container. This concentrate bottle of killex should be mixed at a rate of 6mL per Litre of water to treat 5 square meters.

A: You are correct, Can. Tire shouldn't have it on their web site or flyer. They put 'Call Store' as if it really is available. I've wasted time hunting for Killex because they list it as it is the only thing that helped my backyard, even WeedMan products didn't help.

A: Hello. Killex Lawn Weed Control Concentrate is registered to control Chickweed. Pets such as cats and dogs should stay out of the treated area until it is thoroughly dry. If you are unsure if it is dry, wait 24 hours.

Q: What herbicide do you sell that will eliminate Horsetails from my lawn?

A: Ortho Killex Lawn Weed Control will not control horsetails. We do not have a product to kill horsetail in the lawn without killing the grass also. You will need to use a non-select weed killer to kill horsetail. Please contact us at 866-324-9192.
