I now know why my electrician refused to install!

My electrician wanted to install more expensive pot-lights. I figured he just wanted to make more money. He refused to install these so I did it myself. Not hard to do, BUT this style light bulb runs HOT, burns out and the trims don't stay flush to the ceiling. I fiddled around for 6 months and then called my electrician back and told him he was right. He gave me a break and didn't charge for scrapping these, only for supply and installation of good lights. I live in Toronto, ON

I bought 6 boxes when they were on sale. They are great, I used 28 in my basement on regular and dimmers throughout worked to perfection and were easy to install. I used the rest to replace the MR16 type I had in my kitchen which died every 6 months. They're perfect and look so nice!

Easy to install

I got two boxes to install on my basement, a great purchase. The finish looks great and the light is good enough for any living space. Anyone with a basic understanding of electrical wiring can do it with no problems. The locking mechanism is excellent and the size of the fixture makes it ideal for tight spaces, i.e. basement ceilings. When the original bulbs require replacement consider other options for light spectrum, check the large assortment at CT.

Great lighting

I purchased these for a home theatre project and ended up putting the extras in a home office I built later on. Very easy to install and love the look. They were initially much smaller than I expected but they don't fall short in the way of light provision. I'm waiting for the these to come back on sale before buying another box or two for future projects.

Q: Are these lights IC (Insulation Contact) approved? This product comes with steel housing, are they safe with direction contact with my existing insulation?

2 Answers

A: No, for direct contact with insulation, you would need to have a double walled housing that keeps the insulation at least 3" away from this can and rated to handle the added heat generated by the second can. Code requires max 90 degrees and these run way hotter than that.
