Q: what is the SAE code?
11 years agoA: ATFs are usually not categorized by SAE J300 (Typically engine oils) or SAE J306 (gear and axle oils). ATFs are sold to OEM specifications that cover the transmissions applications; in the case of MotoMaster Multi-Vehicle ATF those generally are GM DEXRON-III(H), Ford MERCON V, JASO 1-A, and JWS-3309. Some of the viscosity tests required for engine oils are not usually run for ATFs. Any viscosity number is approximate and should not be considered suitable for any other application than the intended uses calling for an ATF against the OEM performance standards or as otherwise specified by any equipment manufacturer. Roughly however the product is approximately SAE J300 grade, SAE 0W-16, no higher than 0W-20 or 5W-20. Per SAE J306, it is about SAE 75W; new it would be SAE 75W-80.
