I liked this tool but unfortunately I broke the tool rest, when I tried to replace it I learned that the unit was being discontinued. I wasn’t happy to hear this, my only option was to return the machine.

Absolute hot garbage

There wasn’t a single thing that worked on this piece of trash. The FIRST one I bought… oh boy… here is a list of issues right out of the box. - The motor had less horse power than a dead horse - The guide was bumpier than my backside - The tail stock wouldn’t lock in place, it would fail every time with almost no effort - The free chisels are just free trash I ended replacing the first one on warranty. The only difference in issues was that it took one project to burn out the motor. The only good part about all of this was the Mastercraft customer service person I dealt with. She helped me get my money back.

What warranty?

During the first 3 months the pulley failed because of a missing screw. The manufacturer, Mastercraft, informed me that the screw was not available so I would have to source it myself as well as repair it myself. Why have a warranty if the customer must repair a defective product?

Mini lathe

Turned 10 pens at most and now the headstock is out of alignment. Doesn’t seem to be a way to realign it. Spend the money on a quality lathe instead

Q: would this work for aluminum? i know its a soft(er) metal and i need to try and remove turnings from a piece of aluminum (cylindrical in shape already). thanks!

A: It doesn’t even work with wood. I would not waste your time trying. I bought one of these and didn’t work out of the box. Also doesn’t include a chuck that would hold aluminum.

Q: How can I get replacement parts for this? The motor is burned out.

A: Check with the store but if it’s out of warranty best to just just replace it because you’ll be needing new bearings too eventually too at which point it would have been cheaper to just grab one of these on sale. :)
