I've been using this tape for a while. It has issues with the self locking mechanism. As stated by previous users, it wears out after not to long a time and Canadian Tire knows this. I bought one a couple of years ago under the maximum line with a lifetime warranty. Now they are no longer available as maximum, just the run of the mill mastercraft line and a 1 year warranty. I believe this tells the tale of Canadian Tire's faith in the quality of the product. A one year warranty for a hand tool and 3 years for their entry level jobmate line? Once you get used to the self locking, it's great, but the quality needs to improve or you'll be buying them every few months or going back to the manual locking tapes like I have.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Find a better tape

The locking mechanism stops working after awhile which makes this tape useless. The idea of how it works is good but has not been perfected

- A: Some tapes sold in the north America have additional marks in the shape of small black diamonds, which appear every 19.2 inches (49 cm). These are used to mark out equal truss lengths for roofing materials (five trusses per standard 8-foot (2.4 m) length of building material). Many tapes also have special markings every 16 inches (41 cm), which is a standard interval for studs in housing.12 years agoHelpful?
