Works for about a year - dies if not in use

I buy one of these every year because if you stop using it for more than 2-3 months (like if winter comes around) then when you power up next time, its broken. This isn't just faulty products I've had the same thing happen to the same ice makers over the years. Fan stops spinning Stops detecting when the water is filled up in the tray Gave it 2 stars because it did work for the summer. I feel bad for polluting the enviornment with these things

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Does this unit also keep the ice frozen once made or do I have to remove the ice and store in the freezer?

    • A: You can do either to still have ice. I do both.

Q: Does this make clear restaurant style ice? If you make ice in an ice cube tray its all white and not clear. If you go to a restuarant the ice is actually clear (frozen differently). Does this machine make clear ice and in an actual cube shape rather than a rounded rectangle?

    5 Answers
    • A: The cubes are clear. As for shape, they are long, somewhat oval with a hole in the middle of each.

Q: Is this prodcut a completely refrigerant free? One of the product features is "Electronic controls with easy-to-read LED disp", does that mean it is a completely refrigerant free product? i.e. it is using electricity to make ice rather than refrigerant? Thanks.

    • A: Hi sangdy, the icemaker uses refrigerant in the sealed cooling system to make ice.

Q: How do I clean the inside? I've noticed that the inside of my machine is actually starting to look dirty (it runs 24/7 - I LOVE the machine). I would like to clean it thoroughly, but cannot see how I can get my hands in to clean all the parts.

    • A: The instrucitons includes a section on "Cleaning and Maintenance". First allow the water out. Then using water and vinegar on a clean cloth, clean the inside and ice cube tray (only not the pegs that form the ice)

Q: can the machine be used as a minir fridge for ice cubes and be left on? or does the ice have to be removed once it is made and the machine turned off

    • A: I have wondered the same thing. I left the ice maker on for days and still found the cubes. What I believe happens is that the ice remains, while some may melt, and new ones are made constantly. In the end, there is always ice waiting.

J'adore cette merveille.

Q: Could I keep this in a bedroom? Is there any worry of dripping? Would it also be fine to be kept on top of a wood table?

    3 Answers
    • A: You should be ok. Just be sure the silicone stopper is properly installed in the drain plug. Also, just in case, you can place a drip pan like humidifiers have underneath them, (or a low pail from the dollar store) for just in case. As long as you have 12 inches from sides to wall or other objects you are fine. However, to have this unit in the bedroom you will hear ice falling every 10 min or so. I leave mine downstairs and I can still hear the ice falling while I'm in bed.
