I believe this is the fourth one I’ve purchased in five years. When it works, it works very well. Tells me everything I need to know. Accurate temperature. Wind speed and history are great features. First one became loose and fell off the roof. My bad. Thread lock solved the problem. Second one lasted about two years. Third one was up for a year, then lasted about a month after changing batteries. Number four will be my last purchase. I will then rely on 65 years of weather watching experience.

Good Display - poor exterior sensor

This is the 2nd purchase of this weather station. The display is great. The display of weather information is good and reasonably accurate. It also does sync with the atomic clock on a regular basis. The exterior weather gauge is very poor. It works well when new but doesn't last. It has a poor design that causes the battery terminals at the bottom to corroded after about a year. I was able to get the first one to last 5 years with a jerry rig battery terminals before the rest of sensors quit working. It was cheaper to buy another one then to just buy a replacement exterior weather gauge. Hence 3 star rating.

Q: The SPECIFICATION section does not indicate that the unit uses a “5 Volt DC adapter”, but does indicate the unit requires “3 AAA Alkaline batteries”.  Can the ‘display unit’ function fully with ONLY the AAA batteries? I do not have access to 120 Volts

  • A: I don’t have access to hydro (120 Volts) Using an inverter and a car battery would work - I could use a small solar panel to top up the battery but I’m unsure as to how much power the AC adapter would draw, thus how long a good deep cell battery would last.

  • A: Display works fine on batteries, just have to touch button on top to view screen. I have never plugged mine in. Batteries last about one year.

Q: Why does the outdoor temperature and wind indicator work for a day or two, stop for a number of hours , then begin working again. The unit is only 2 months old, and contains new, good quality batteries

  • A: Actually I have two of these units and really enjoy their information. One of the anamometers got heavy rain in the battery compartment and rusted and stopped transmitting. I linked its base to the new weather station and now have two fully functioning displays.
