Oven thermometer digital

The digital oven cooking thermometer was just what we were looking for, cord long enough to place probe into what you’re cooking and long enough cord to attach the reader for cooking preferences. Very pleased with the results of wellness of meat chicken etc without opening the oven door or grill. Definitely recommend, very easy to use.

It's not a reliable thermometer!

Like all the other reviews, it will alert you well before the safe internal temperature is actually reached. I tested the probe by placing it in a saucepan and boiled water, to which it accurately measured 100°C, but in the oven, it doesn't read accurately at all! I've used it twice in the oven now, and it alarmed well before the meats were actually cooked. I will be looking for a refund or store credit.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Can this be used in a charcoal grill? I was just worried about the coated wire sitting in that hot direct heat

2 Answers

A: Sure, but you have to keep the wire off any grill or it will melt. I've touched the cable to a gas grill at highest heat no problem, but don't let it sit on it. The metal prong gets hot really quick, so that's the real issue.

Q: Would this work for monitoring the temperature when boiling maple syrup

A: I've never tried, it's a meat probe and not mean for liquids. I don't know if it goes over boiling point because you never want meat that cooked. That said, it is a sealed tip and probably no top end in temp so i don't see why not.

A: Turn it on for meat thermometer or timer, then choose the meat by pressing until you find the right meat, then choose how well done it is. Chicken and turkey and hamburger you can only select well done.

Q: How high a temperature can it read? Can it be used for candy making?

A: It's a pretty lightweight and easy to break piece - wouldn't recommend it for much at all. We've gone through two and they're pretty junk. There is another thermometer that CTC sells though, which is perfect for candy making (and deep frying) for under $12. Just search "candy thermometer" and you'll see it come up - nice handle on it, and a clip that attaches to your pot.

Q: Does it measure temperatures below 100F?

A: Yes! It is very accurate, even at lower temperatures. The other day, I wanted to know if it was below freezing in my garage, so I used this thermometer, and it said that it was 13.8°C. On the whole, I have been very pleased with this thermometer!

Q: does the whole thermometre go in the oven or do you keep the digital part sticking out? Is wire safe to be in over?

A: The digital thermometer unit must be placed outside of the oven (DO NOT place thermometer unit into oven). Be certain not to crimp the probe cord with the oven door. Make sure the sensor plug on the other end of the cord is plugged into the thermometer. "LLL" on display indicated the probe is not correctly plugged into the thermometer unit. The cord is oven safe.
