Goes on and off, resets after power failure
10 years ago
Not a very good product. It does not save the setting after the power is disconnected. Mine broke after 1 year, I only use it in the winter. It goes on and off intermittently. Its out of warranty so not much I can do about it but put it in the scrap bin.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Ok, but not great.

If the power goes off, the settings reset. Also, cannot program on/off times properly for the whole day.

Not recommended for regular use

This is the second Garrison heater I've bought from Canadian Tire. Both failed in their second season of use. Not sure what happened to the first one but it just stopped heating - brought it back to the store and luckily they accepted the return without a receipt and they gave me a new one. I traced the problem with my second one and the internal thermostat 'burnt out' meaning I need a new one. The problem is...there's NO WHERE I can find this replacement part except if I go to China ! I'm not exaggerating...just try and look up "Garrison Heaters" online and you'll see that there's no head office or customer service department that exists for this unit. My advice and one I will try to live by is : before you buy a product, look up the company name and see if they have a customer service number you can call even just to buy spare parts - if you can't then don't expect the unit to work longer than Canadian Tire's exchange/return policy. I think I will look for a Honeywell...

poor quality
I should have heeded these reviews and not purchased this product. It is very poorly designed. First of all the digital clock loses about 1.5 to 2 minutes a day! This effectively makes the built in start/stop timer useless because the clock will be off 1 hour the first month..2 hours the second month etc. This is the worst quartz clock I have ever seen.
Secondly when you turn the unit off with the on/off switch or if there is a power interruption then all of the clock and timer settings are lost.
Thirdly..when the power is lost then the default thermostat setting goes to something like 35 degrees celius so if you just turn it on and leave it without readjusting the thermostat it will fry itself.
Start typing your question and we'll check if it was already asked and answered.

Q: Is it energy efficient?
my electiric bill has doubled and the power company said this unit was the culprit

A: It is as efficient as any portable electric heater since all electric heaters operate at basically the same high efficiency. Unfortunately the cost of electricity is not cheap. If you are looking to reduce the cost of your heating bill then then what you have to do is lower the heat throughout your whole home and then just use a portable electric heater to warm the room/space you are currently in. That is basically the only way to save money. Other uses for an electric heater would be to make a chronically cold room more comfortable.

Q: Its save for Kids if they touch heater
my son1 year 2 mont old save for himif he touch

A: Unlike my Delonghi Oil Filled heater this one does get really hot to the touch and will burn you if you touch between the fins. There are better heaters for use around children then this one. While their elements may get red hot they will have a grill or other safeguard to help prevent burns. The quartz infrared square heaters made from wood and are on castors are advertised as safe around pets/children.

A: If I recall its something like 35 degrees Celsius and is the default setting. Other reviewers have stated that this unit will fry itself if accidently left on at this setting.

Q: How does the auto function work?
When I set my unit using the auto function the unit doesn not heat up.

2 Answers
A: The built in clock loses about two minutes a day so the auto function is pretty much useless since the clock will be out an hour each and every month. Also if the power is interrupted all the settings are lost.

Q: Half of my wheel hardware (2 out of 4) is rusted/corroded, do I need to return the whole thing?
Hello, I just bought the Garrison 043-5963-6 Oil-filled Heater. After taking it out of the box, and beginning to assemble it I found that two of the wheels and their hardware are rusting and corroded straight from the box.
What do I do?

A: This product carries a 1 year exchange warranty redeemable at any Canadian Tire store.
You must take back the whole unit along with your receipt for an exchange.
