    Not build durably it seems

Got this product as a gift and used it for two years and a half then it stopped freezing the water tray. Took it to a repair shop (Curtis advised this) and apparently the refrigeration unit has rust inside and can’t be serviced. Too bad because it was a great machine but must question the quality of the parts.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    I would give it a 0 if I could

Purchased this ice maker to replace our old one that stopped working. It’s a big machine and for the first day seemed to work well and lots of ice. The second day seemed to be slowing down and not as effective so took ice out, made sure water filled, stopped it and restarted etc to no avail. Literally by day 2 the machine is not working. It will fill with water and drain out, manual suggests it’s a coolant issue and to contact customer service. Don’t bother calling them, they just take your email address and say someone will get back to you.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    cheap parts made of plastic

We are on our second ice maker. We love not having to buy ice but this machine only lasts about a year. Second one broke the same as the first one. Little plastic back that holds the bucket snapped. Not under warranty anymore so we used a twisty tie to hold the bucket on so it will make ice. Doesn't push the ice cubes up and over but we help it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    GREAT WHILE IT LASTS

This product is awesome while it works. We bought it because we use a lot of ice at my house and it kept us supplied...until it died. (You cannot put the ice in another container because it melts into a big blob of ice, and that is not good.) We have gone through 9 in the past couple of years and were hopeful when you changed the name of the manufacturer, that they would last longer. Can't afford another one so we are back to making cubes in the freezer and they are horrible! Our well water is horrible so we cannot hook a machine up to our taps. Love the product, but disappointed when they stop working.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Great while it lasts

3rd one I've purchased, first one lasted a year and a half, bought a new one - lasted a couple of months so returned to the store for a replacement, this one went for 3 years. Hard to find another one that's a decent size for regular use. Have to try and see if repairable through a appliance repair shop. Of course 3 years later the price has gone up $30. Great when it works.

Q: How long does the ice stay frozen in then unit. Can it be left for several days . Dose the unit have refrigerated storage like a regular freezer ?.

    • A: Once the basket is full of ice it has to be transferred to the freezer or cooler in order for it to make more ice. I have left it over night, and the ice is still in the basket. It won't keep it frozen for several days though. The object of this is to make ice not keep it frozen.

    • A: I think I've answered my own question. Most indicators point to Salton as the Manufacturer (regardless of "source"#. Yes, I bought it - so, I have reasons to believe that - #enclosed documentation, etc.#. I still think it works well #even with limited capacities of water).

Q: my ice maker evaporator rods, are losing their chrome finish and is turning a copper color, should I throw it away and buy a new one?

    1 Answer
    • A: As long as there is no rust on it, there is no need to throw it away. As FYI, below are the steps to clean the ice maker. Stop the Ice Making Cycle by pressing the Power Button and the green LED light will go out. Unplug the Ice Maker from the wall outlet. Allow the unit to warm up to room temperature. If the Water Tray is not in the vertical position behind the Evaporator Fingers, gently push the Water Tray back so that all water drains into the Water Reservoir. Open the Drain Plug to drain out excess water. Remove the Ice Basket. Remove the Water Tube Screen and rinse under running water. Clean the Ice Maker interior with a soft cloth dampened in warm water and vinegar. Rinse with a clean damp cloth. Replace the Drain Plug and the Water Tube Screen. Wash the Ice Basket and Ice Scoop in warm soapy water. Rinse and dry. Clean the exterior of the Ice Maker with a soft damp cloth. Use a mild dishwashing soap, if necessary. IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not clean the Evaporator Fingers.
