Good quality filter sand at a fair price

I filled my new sand filter with 2.5 bags of sand and the filter has been working great since. I've had no issues at all and the pool appears much cleaner since switching to sand from a cartridge. Backwashes well and quickly and keeps on going.

Q: Can it be used as aquarium substrate?

A: Yes. I've been using it my aquariums for a number of years. This brand is pre-washed and natural, so I didn't need to wash it. I put it in the aquarium before the water and had the water hit a plate or something when adding the water so it doesn't move the sand. I follow Father Fish on YouTube. He explains how to mix 1/3 organic potting soil, 1/3 peat moss and 1/3 compost together and then wet this until it's like a mud pie. This is for under the sand in a one inch layer. Then add a minimum of 2 inches of sand. Then add the water and plants, but don't push the plant roots into the soil. They should find their way into the soil on their own. This method creates a natural environment. The soil provides the beneficial bacteria that will break down the waste and the waste naturally gets pulled down through the sand and decomposes to feed the plants. The plants eat up the nitrates so your tank stays balanced. Learn more by watching Father Fish on YouTube.

Q: Is this used for cleaning sand out of the bottom of the pool? If not what do i need for that to clean sand out?

A: No. This is sand that you put in a sand filter pump to filter out other particulate in the water. sand filtering is an alternative to a cartridge filter. To get the sand off the bottom of the pool you will need a pool vacuum of some type. If you understand the principal of siphoning, you can create an effective, no cost vacuum using your garden hose.
