Contrary to the negative reviews, the CRecorderII does the job just fine. The two main drawbacks are a) the software is Windows only (I would recommend Innova's Quicklinks bluetooth adapter and app over this device for that reason); and, b) it doesn't offer any export options whereby one could transfer the data into a spreadsheet and graph the data for one's own purposes. The Canadian site for the LaunchTech is no longer active, and LaunchTech USA no longer offers this product either. Download the software at http://www.crecorder.com instead. There are other firms that distribute this same product but under different name, and their software also works just fine.

Well, I just bought this tool and tried to download the software on their website (www.launchtech.ca) as directed and nothing is working on the site. It is extremely slow, no information, etc. I finally got the file downloaded (after 4 attempts) and the zip file has an error and apparently it is an empty zip file. I'm taking it back and getting my money back. I would rather spend the $90.00 on 1 hour of labour by a real mechanic !!!!

I have spent a lot of time with this device so I hope to save you some time and anguish. As written on many websites the literature on this item is poor. The biggest problems are that the software was updated but the instructions were not. So it becomes a hit and miss to get it going. Here are the things you must follow; a) The device must be installed in the car and the car must be started right away in less than one (1) minute. This procedure must be followed every time you remove the device to take a reading. If you re-install the device after taking a reading and do not start the car with in one minute, the device and the car will not link (marry) and no readings will be taken. I installed this device in the parking lot at CTC and when I got home I had 6 readings, I was very impressed. Afterwards I went back outside and just plugged the module in without starting the car. One week later, no extra readings. b) The software is not easy. And you must go through many menus. i) You need to create a vehicle. (vehicle info) ii) Then you need to create a user. (user info) iii) Then you need to marry the car with the user with the vehicle. (user set up) c) Likewise removing a vehicle must be done in backwards format to above. You need to separate the items before you can delete the files. d) The reports do not stay on the PC unless exported. Once you remove the device from your PC the data is still in the device, So you need to save the file. With all of this, why purchase the device? I have 2 sons who are mechanics, unfortunately the car (2009 Pontiac Wave) has an intermittent problem which can not be located by anyone This is a cheap alternative to help find the problem. It measures everything. You plug it in and drive. When you take it out, it will give you volumes of data. Remember though that most of this data means nothing to the average Joe. But at least you can show the mechanic, or do Google searches.
