Quality construction, some modification required

I bought the Class-III version of this hitch that was recommended for a 2011 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 passenger van. The hitch included the necessary hardware (more on this below) and excellent 1-page instructions in three languages. Construction of the hitch looks and feels excellent. It appears to be all solid steel with 8 total frame attachment points, 4 per side. It was painted all black with the exception of two small spots on each side, as if it had been ground off during shipping or maybe missed during manufacture. Fortunately I had a spray can of black automotive paint in the garage and was able to patch these up along with some scratches I made to the underside while supporting the hitch with a floor jack during installation. The hitch includes a mounting plate for a trailer wiring connector. Included mounting hardware is a pair of bolts, lock washers, nuts and spacers. The instructions assume that your Sprinter has a rear step already mounted to the frame rails. In my case this was true, and the step has 3 nuts and bolts per side, which you must remove and point in the other direction while mounting the hitch. The instructions walk you through this very clearly. The only problem you might run into is if your van doesn't have this step, or if nuts and bolts are missing, in which case you'd have to source new ones. I had a minor and a major challenge with installation. The minor challenge was the spare tire. You can work with it in place, but it leaves very little clearance for accessing the bolts. The 3 existing bolts are threaded not only into the nuts, but also the frame, so you have to back them out quite a distance, and doing this with a wrench or your fingers would take a very long time. I opted to drop the spare tire and was able to remove them quickly with an impact wrench. The bigger challenge was the tip of the exhaust pipe, which interfered with the hitch crossmember by about an inch. I ended up removing the rear exhaust hanger, dropping the exhaust, and cutting off the tipe with a cutoff wheel. I had to raise the rear of the van to get the clearance I needed for the grinder. A hacksaw would have also worked if I had one, but you would be holding it upside down and cutting upward due to the lack of work space above the exhaust. Hitch capacity is rated at 5000 pounds, which is exactly what the vehicle is rated for, so that's a good fit. Overall I'm happy with the hitch and I would purchase and install it again if I had to, but not before doing some research to see if competing models could be installed with less work.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Hitch receiver for Nissan van

Installed easily on my Nissan NV 3500 van. Bolts lined up well with existing holes/nuts. An integrated bracket for installing wire harness would be nice, but this one doesn't have it.
