Q: Hi, I would like to know if these tires are also ok to use not just for winter season?

A: Hi Dennis, Winter tires are designed specifically for winter use, and this tire is no exception. They are made with a softer rubber compound to handle severe winter conditions. In contrast, all-season or all-weather tires do not perform as well in extreme winter conditions or on snowy and icy roads, especially when breaking. All all-season or all-weather tires become harder as the temperature drops, these tires are losing traction capabilities. As someone else mentioned, it is not recommended to use winter tires in the summer due to the rubber compound. As strange as it may seem, the softer rubber compound does not perform well in warmer weather or hot surfaces, causing the tires to wear out much faster.

A: The UltimateContact Winter does not have the matching size for the Tesla Model Y which for 19" wheels is a 255/45R19 size.

A: Hello and thank you for the question. Higher load index replacement winter tires will not noticeably affect the handling and performance of your vehicle. They are designed to cover the weight requirements for all vehicles that have that same size and where applications and vehicle loading may require additional support without influencing the ride and performance of the vehicle under these possible conditions.

Not very good on ice

First time using Continental brand, installed a few weeks ago on my RDX and was waiting for the first snow before writing a review. On a plus side, I was really impressed by how quiet these tires are. I’ve been driving for 30+ years and never ever I’ve had tires this quiet. On some roads, I could literally only hear wind sound coming from the outside, noting else. Starting a week ago, we had some heavy snowfalls here in Calgary, and I was able to put these tires to the real test. On another positive note, these tires are great both in deep snow and on the roads with packed snow. They grab very strong at both acceleration and braking. Cornering is great too. But where they completely fell apart for me is on clear ice. I know very well from my lifelong experience how the best snow tire behaves on clear ice, and unfortunately these tires completely let me down after such a great performance on dry road and in snow. I was testing them on icy patches at our shopping centre after the snow melted and froze again and I am glad I did it late enough when there were no other cars around because I was sliding through the 4-way stops like a puck. Interestingly, these tires had no problem moving the car from a complete stop on ice, even uphill. It’s the stopping that was a real pain. I started reading reviews and found that ice performance is a real problem for some Continental brands. This tire being made exclusively for Canadian Tire and often sold at a big discount makes me to believe that it was modelled from less expensive Continental brands that don’t perform well on ice. I am giving this tire three stars because ice performance is important to me. I cancelled my order for my wife’s car and went with another brand that I used for years and trust it 100%. Was able to get it at the same price on Black Friday, and luckily they had my size in stock. For my car, once my tires pick some gravel from the roads after the city starts sprinkling it, it should mitigate the ice performance issue, hopefully. I will update my review after this winter.

Avoid - garbage tires

I bought these tires. Found I felt a wobble. Spent 4+ hours getting some replaced due to defects in the tires that would make them impossible to balance. How was I sold these in the first place if they're not properly balanced? Never buying Continental tires - or tires from Canadian Tire for that matter for selling garbage like this or even selling them unbalanced in the first place - again.
