Product Details

Take on winter driving with confidence with the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 Winter Tire for superior control, handling and braking in winter weather. A unique compound allows the tire to remain flexible, even at low temperatures, to improve traction on snow, ice and wet roads. A specialized tread with a three-dimensional sipe offers improved handling and acceleration in wet conditions.

Snow Peak Rated

The 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol indicates the tire is rated for Severe Snow Service. This is the acceptable standard for winter driving in Canada and provides improved safety on snow and ice.

Mud And Snow Rated

The M+S symbol differentiates an All-Season tire from a Summer only tire. While rated for light snow, they will not match a winter tire for traction or stopping distance on snow and ice.

  • Exclusive tread design with Stabiligrip, a 3D sipe technology that delivers a 10% improvement on snow acceleration and over 5% enhancement in handling on snow-covered and icy roads

  • Helio compound allows the tire to remain flexible in low temperatures for better braking, stopping over 5% shorter on snow, ice and wet roads

  • Pilot Alpin PA4 bears the Michelin Green X marking, and its construction reduces rolling resistance for lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions

  • Tires provide safe winter driving year after year, with controlled power

  • Wheels sold separately

Ice traction seriously degrades at 6/32nds tread depth remaining.

I live in Calgary where winters have constant thawing and freezing cycles, making road conditions treacherous at times. These are very capable tires when new or slightly worn and have decent tread durability. At approximately 35,000 Kms with timely tire rotations and maintaining pressures regularly, they are now worn down evenly to 6/32nds of an inch remaining (approx. 50% worn). I was hoping to get another winter out of them, but I no longer feel safe driving on icy surfaces as they don`t grip nearly as well as they used to. Perhaps my expectations are unreasonable, but I am a bit disappointed in their deterioration in traction, stability and performance at this stage.

No, I do not recommend this product.

A1 reco

Brilliant tires. Not too discernible from my PS4S Michelin performance tires. A1 handling and relatively quiet. My fave winter setup.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Won't buy this one again

I have had three sets of these tires on my 2016 Ford Focus RS. It was the OEM winter tire for the car, and I was impressed enough to buy subsequent sets. The first two sets were incredible - great handling characteristics for a winter tire, quiet and smooth drive, great treadwear life, and unstoppable in even deep snow. However, this past winter I put a replacement set on, and the handling characteristics have gone significantly downhill. There is so much sidewall flex, and such significant movement in the tread that I feel like I'm driving on jello. I'm guessing that this is a new rubber compound, and while it does perform well in snow and on ice, I am disappointed that the change in compound has so negatively impacted the driving characteristics. I know that no winter tire will ever give as crisp and edgy handling as a summer tire, but I am directly comparing this tire to itself.

Nothing better than the Pilot Alpin PA6 for high powered Sports Cars

Over the past five years, I’ve used two full sets of Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 tires on my 2020 AMG GT C for winter driving, and they’ve been absolutely spectacular. At temperatures below 40°F (4°C), these tires provide better grip than most summer tires do at 60°F (15°C) and above. On dry roads, even at high speeds (up to 168 MPH / 270 KPH), I have full confidence in their performance when taking fast corners, even in temperatures below 20°F (-7°C). Braking performance is also exceptional. On damp surfaces, they inspire more confidence than track-focused tires like the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 while on dry surface. In wet or lightly snow-covered conditions, I can drive cautiously but confidently, knowing they will keep me safe and get me where I need to go. It’s worth noting that my GT C is RWD with nearly 600 HP, so maintaining grip in extreme cold is absolutely crucial—and these tires deliver.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great tires but not great value.

Note: I am reviewing the Michelin PA4 TIRES, not Canadian Tire, and I did NOT buy my tires at CDN Tire so we're clear... These were a very good tire on my BMW X5M, which is a heavy SUV with 550 HP, I drive them hard and as a consequence, they only lasted 45,000 km before needing to be replaced (a little over 2 years). So low wear-ability is my only complaint , they dont have a lot of tread depth. Further ticking me off is that I have off-set tires (rear are larger than the front) and the PA4 model has been replaced by P5 , BUT you cant just mix and match PA4 and P5 tires because one is symmetrical, and the other type is unidirectional. The PA4 wear out quick(45k km) and you cant replace just a pair (they stopped making PA4) and you have to buy a whole new set of 4. For $2300 ($3k for P5!) , I expected a better experience. Otherwise they were great tires, but not for the money or inability to support 2 years later........
