Rearview Mirror with 3.5 backup camera display
13 years ago
At first it seemed like a great idea. iT wouldnt show anything behind you in bright light - nighttime wasn;t bad. In both cases the pictures were washed out - compared to my backup cameras in my 2007 Sienna and 1212 Honda crv.Not like the displayed picture on the case. It also suffered from a lot of stray signals. I could look into a cloathing store and a garage as I drove buy.
I complained to the company and received another as an replacement - just as bad. Now it is sitting on my work bench - probably heading to the garbage. I had it installed on a 2006 Corolla.
Cant recommend it.

Nasty install, awful audio.

Quite frustrating to install in a minivan. Audio was unuseable. The mirror doesn't have the day/night adjustment, back-up monitor is very small.

A Poor Man's best safety buy for driving
Despite some pretty bad ratings of this product, I went again the stream and gave this product a fair trial. I purchased it at $150 on sale, a price way below my expectation for the features offered. Because of this sizable saving, I took the advantage to pay a professional to install it for me. It took him less than one and a half hour for a very neat job and he gave me a very fair deal. So much said about the installation.
Since the sensor of the camera is MOS and not CCD, the picture quality was slightly degraded and colors appear washed out a bit but the overall picture is still very watchable and clear enough to provide the necessary safety to help the driver. In fact, one can improve the picture quite a bit by going into the menu to adjust its Contrast (higher setting for sharper picture), brightness (just bright enough to reveal the scene after setting the contrast and don't set it up too much) and color (almost maximum setting to get a touch of color reality but never too rich because of the sensor's inferiority). A richer color vividness in the scene is not going to make it any safer for safety purpose of such use. I am totally happy and satisfied with the extra sense of safety I now have for backing up my vehicle which is a SUV.
The bluetooth works reasonably well and it paired with my Nokia phone right on my first attempt. Calls received sounded clear enough and audible and the party on the other end appeared happy and satisfied with my voice and level. I never try the voice outgoing call function since my cell phone is not equipped with such a feature.
On the whole, this is a great gear and a great buy at the Canadian Tire as they allow 30 days' return vs the risk of buying on the internet (without much savings at all if you get it at the right time at CT) and facing a hard time to exchange or return if the unit is defective or incompatible for some reason.
The bottom line is this product will do the job to increase your feeling of safety and confidence and looks very convincingly like factory designed if installed professionally. Go for it if you don't have a factory built one. It is not a must have but it will save some nasty insurance claims to cover damages due to unskilful and clumsy driving when backing up your vehicle. It is worth its weight in gold.
Yes, I recommend this product.

poor image - took it back
I spent a day installing this device only to return it. The image for the backup was unusable - monochrome, fuzzy and without adequate contrast. Most of the time I couldn't make out what I was looking at. All that made worse by extreme glare. The device has settings to "control" the display but I found that they made little difference. Calling the factory helpline did not help although they offered to replace it. Frankly, I didn't want to go through the trouble of another installation in the hope it would be better.
The backup camera was my most important consideration so I never tried the bluetooth.

Q: For installation, Is it needed to make holes in some parts of the car to get the power wires through?
3 Answers
A: I installed mine by loosening the license plate light and sneaking the camera wire in beside the lamp. If this isn't available to you, you may need to make a hole behind the license plate. Other than that, just follow existing wires and you should be fine. Test the bluetooth BEFORE you install the camera, it might save you a pile of work.

Q: Will this be consider a modification in the car so it needs to be notify to my Insurance Company and therefore the Insurance Premium will raise?
2 Answers
A: Not at all. The installer hardly tore anything apart and the only modification is to connect the unit to be hard wired to the power source which he did it just like the snap of his fingers, Insurance companies should welcome such addition let alone raising premium because that would be imposing a penalty for a good deed.

Q: is the camera wireless?
The description says"Back-up camera easily mounts onto the license plate with 90° wide angle view, utilizing 2.4 GHz wireless technology", so I assume it is a wireless camera, and if so the mirror has the wireless receiver built-in? thanks.

Q: Will this only clip on over a standard mirror, or will it also clip over a similar size mirror with a similar size control panel underneath?
1 Answer
A: The total span of the mirror grips is almost 3”. It fits over most mirrors. The user should note that it is not recommended to have the mirror loose, and should be strapped tight at all times while driving. So if they still need to use their control panel on their existing mirror, then they should purchase the dash monitor vs. the mirror.

Q: What is the Difference between this camera and the Yada Bluetooth® Rearview Mirror Product #36-2025-6
13 years ago
1 Answer
A: This product comes equipped with a backup camera and Bluetooth technology. The screen for the Backup Camera is also the screen that is used when calls come in to display the caller information. 036-2025 is just a Bluetooth enabled mirror, this does not include a backup camera.
