we had two last year and we caught over 200 wasps over the summer. it's very important that you fill to the line. you also catch more if you put a bit of meat in it (deli meat or any other type of meat) - they go crazy for meat and they come even faster.

the trap is designed to have the wasps and hornets enter but not able to exit. unfortunately they can just fly out so doesn't do much.

It worked

I've had this trap before, and it works well. At first, it didn't work this time because there were too many other food sources (flowers) in my yard. Then in the fall, when the pollen stores were low, it captured many wasps.

Follow Key instruction - the “fill to line”

Initially my results were same as a few others, acted like a feeder not a trap. I used our hummingbird sugar / water mixture. I thought I had plenty of fluid but they crawled in, had a nice feed and crawled back out even if they had fallen in the mixture. Being stubborn I tried again. I added corn syrup to make it a little thicker and hoped more difficult for them to climb out of. But the key was filling it right to the line as instructed. I now have 2 of them. I don’t bother with the corn syrup and today will be the third time to empty them in just over a week (submerge in a bucket of water to catch the few that are always flying around at the top). I couldn’t begin to count how many they have trapped. Making yard safer for grandkids - one wasp at a time!

A: Fill a bucket with water. Submerge the trap and leave it for 10+ mins incase any wasps are still alive then take it out and rise it off/wash it then refill. Very simple

Q: Does this work for bumblebees as well?

A: I don't think so. I've got many wasps and bumblebees flying around my property and only the wasps have made their way inside the trap. That being said, I'm glad it's that way because I don't find the bumblebees to be a nuisance since they're actually useful for pollinating flowers and vegetables around the garden.

A: The bait formula recommended for use in the Green Earth Yelow Jacket & Wasp Trap, of fruit juice, sugar and raw meat or fish, would not have any attractant value for bees. A Bees natural instinct is to forage from the sugary nectar in flowers, and will by pass all other sugar sources, while YellowJackets or Wasps are quickly attracted to all sugary and protein food sources.
