Accurate and inexpensive

I saw the lone negative review here for the Victor Tire Tread Depth Gauge but thought that I would buy one and check it with my electronic caliper. It is accurate. Perhaps the one that was inaccurate was somehow defective. I found the quality is quite good and it will be handy to keep one in the glove box. It will come in handy when rotating tires to make sure you can monitor the wear and rotate to maintain even wear. Suggestion to manufacturer: It would be nice if it came in a compact clamshell case to protect it when stored in a glove box or tool kit.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Just bought this tonight to check my tire tread depth and it was very easy to use and accurate. I double checked the accuracy against a ruler and the gauge was spot on.

Q: chart can someone post a chart for winter and all season tires

2 Answers
  • A: Not entirely sure what you're getting at here, but as I understand it, you want to know what tread depth you should have on different types of tires. Legal limit is 2/32" for any tires. 2/32" is where the wear bars are on all tires (note that some winter tires have warning indicators at 6/32"). Although you may legally drive with tires that have 2/32" remaining tread, it's not a very good idea, since such little tread will give you very little or no grip on the road Most tire manufacturers recommend replacing summer or all-season tires when they reach 4/32". Winter tires need more tread to displace slush and snow; consequently, they should be replaced at 6/32". Some winter tires have warning indicators at 6/32". Hope this answers your question.

Q: why 3 sides for tread

1 Answer
  • A: Each side adds more detailed resolution for the gauge. In the case of millimetres, each side has a mark every three millimetres, so the added sides allow for a mark at each millimetre.

Q: What is the minimum depth this gauge will read? E.g. 2/32nds?

1 Answer
