Inadequate information

Haven't tried it yet. Just got it home. It is advertised as able to cover large > 2 acres, but it comes with only enough to cover 1 small lot. Now I have to go back and get more wire, at more cost. I will do so but so far I am not happy with the advertising of this product

Awesome! A+

We have been using this product and an additional collar for about three months now with good success. We have encompassed two acres for two german shephards. They learned quickly and have yet to leave the yard once we figured out what settings to use for each dog. Supervision is much easier now that we have the underground fence. The collars are strong enough to withstand their rough horseplay.
A previous reviewer had problems with a dog running past the fence and taking the shock. Our stubborn dog did this on trails leading from our yard. To stop this we increased the shock level and created "Z" patterns with the wire to extend the field she would have to cross. After experiencing a correcting "zap" after our chnages she has yet to leave the yard again (she even stops short of chasing rabbits past the fence!).
Yes, I recommend this product.

Keeping Pets Safe

This underground fence system is AMAZING! After a couple months of training my dog never leaves the yard, unless I take him for a walk. It's peace of mind knowing your pet will never run away or get injured on the road. The video explains all the steps clearly.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Best Purchase Ever

We have had this system for a few years, and we love it! We followed the instructions for training our dog with the fence carefully over the first couple of weeks, which I believe helps "ingrain" the lesson. We have a lab, and she can be stubborn, but she caught on right away. After a number of months, she got used to the "warning beep", and started using that to figure out just how far she could go. Unfortunately, having the beeper going all the time kills the battery more quickly, and she would then go outside her boundary, since she didn't get a beep. So I had my husband disconnect the beeper in her collar (no more warning!), as she knew well enough the boundary by this time. It only took a couple of unannounced corrections for her to figure out that game was over. Now she doesn't even need to wear the collar. though I put it on her occasionally if it seems like she needs a refresher. Also, for those having problems with dogs running through the boundary, try turning the boundary width up on the transmitter - if they have to endure a longer period of getting "zapped" to escape, it might deter them. Lastly, our transmitter was just killed by lightning, but with the lifetime warranty, the manufacturer is replacing it for a small service charge of $30 (we are past the one-year labour included date), which I think is great. The newer models may have built-in lightning protection; for older models, a lightning protector may be purchased seperately. This is a great product that keeps our dog in the yard, regardless of the temptations - squirrels, rabbits, other dogs, etc. She even stops chasing her ball if it bounces past her "safe zone"!

A: Hello, Thanks for your inquiry. There are two sets of prongs available in our fence systems. With longer fur and larger dogs we recommend using the longer prongs.

A: Thank you for your interest in this PetSafe® product. Here is the copy from the Fence System's Manual to help you with your question.
How do I allow a place along the boundary wire where my pet can safely cross?
To create the layout that you need, a double loop layout format will be necessary.
First, run the wire around the perimeter. When you get to the end, make a U-turn with your wire and backtrack around the coverage area.
Be sure to keep the wire 3 - 5 feet apart where you want signal. When you want to cancel the signal, bring the wires together and twist them 10 times per foot.

Q: Is there any risk of my dog getting a dangerous shock when using the collar? Specifically can he go swimming with this collar on?
We live on the water and our fence would run to the water's edge.

A: The collar would be waterproof if the dog is swimming in a river or lake.
The correction will be slightly higher on a wet pet but it will not hurt the dog.

Q: Does snow cover of any depth reduce the effectiveness of this system?
1 Answer
A: Thank you for your interest in the PetSafe Underground Fence.
The dog fence works fine in snow with a few adjustments. As the snow levels build up you want to turn up the dial on the control box that sets the boundary width. This is because as the snow starts to accumulate, the dog will be walking higher and higher over the boundary wire, so to compensate we need to turn up the signal so it get up above the snow. Once the snow starts to melt away in early spring, you will need to turn the boundary width back down again to the normal setting.

Q: Can you use it in a straight line or dose it have to be connected to itself??

A: The wire must make a ‘continuous loop’ and come back to the transmitter. It cannot simply go out on a straight line. We have attached an example
