    FAST, but backwards

Okay so, I (like the other reviewer) am 30. I have taken this sled out with my daughter, at two different hills, one the size of a small ski hill and the other a maybe 30 ft vertical hill. at the small hill it worked great, the snow was either packed or semi packed, like the other reviewer it really did want to go backwards, But only on packed snow or ice. through the less packed stuff it would go forward no problem, (also putting weight to the back helped) turning the sled around and it would not only go straight but it could be steered easily, only problem here is it could get caught in deeper snow I am sure ( but I never had this problem) at the larger hill everything was packed, the sled was amazingly fast, in fact there is a safety hill at the bottom of the large hill to stop kids from sledding out on too the parking lot, most of the fast sleds could make it 1/4 or max 1/2 way up the safety hill, this sled made it all the way over the hill and was steerable enough to make it between the hay bails and parked cars across the 50 foot parking lot then down the next hill to the fence in front of a local tim hortons, it was something purely out of national lampoons christmas. it is strange though that you have to ride it backwards to gain control... I have the cost co version of a foam/plastic bottom sled) and while it goes almost as fast (and has handles) it isn't steerable. On the other hand the cost co version is only about $20, given the choice between the two I like the ski-doo from CT for it's little bit of extra speed and its maneuverability . in fact I am going to buy another because it's on sale. I also got to race against one of the new skeleton style sleds from ski-doo and it didn't stand a chance against this thing (although it did have more ability to steer)

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Would rather go backwards, not forwards!

I have used several foam sleds in the past and been very impressed with their speed, comfort (at 32 I'm not as young as I once was but I still love sledding) and maneuverability. Previous foam sleds all suffered from the slippery bottom plastic being too thin, and some had too much profile/rails slowing them down. This sled seemed to have a thicker more robust bottom and fairly minor profiling on the bottom which looked like they wouldn't affect speed significantly. I bought this for my son and was sorely disappointed. The wedge shape and the profile used to make the "handles" causes a large amount of drag, and for whatever reason the sled wanted to spin around and go down the hill backwards. This wouldn't surprise me with my son at the helm, but I've been up the hill a few times so to speak (I can steer anything that slides...or so I thought...). This is the one sled I couldn't steer. The hill we were slidding on was partially packed, so this sled might work better on very hard packed snow. The quality seemed good, but my son didn't like it for the reasons mentioned above so I returned it. I hope the mfgr goes back to the drawing board and comes up with a sled of this quality that works better.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    • A: Kind of a late answer but so long as you can hold on to the thing over the jump it won't break on the other end. it's light so if you aren't holding it in the air you will fly further than it will.
