We it rained soon after covering the sofa. It held the water in a puddle in the middle yet all was dry underneath.

I ordered the basic covers for my outdoor sofa and chairs. They are durable and completely water proof. I can see the water beading on the surface during rain, while the cushions underneath remain completely dry.
