Q: Can i use this outdoors under a sofit to light up a wall using a dimmer and does it require a pot light box or can it mount to a standard electric box

A: This canister is specified for outdoor use and does not require an insulation box unless there is insulation in the soffit area. It is compatible with dimmer switches as long as the bulb used is incandescent or Halogen. This unit is self contained and is to be mounted as a stand alone and not into the electrical box.
