Questions

1 - 2 of 2 Questions

Q: Where can I dispose of the mat once it is completely soaked in oil?

1 Answer
  • A: Unused Absorbent Mats, Socks and Pillows are non-hazardous and can be safely disposed of in municipal and non-hazardous waste landfills. However, when a Mat, Sock or Pillow has been used to absorb a liquid, it takes on the characteristics of that liquid and should be handled, stored and disposed of with the same precautions as the liquid that has been absorbed. Absorbents do not treat, neutralize or in any way change the properties of the liquid absorbed. As with all waste streams, the generator must make the determination as to whether or not the waste is hazardous. If the waste is hazardous, it needs to be handled in accordance with federal, provincial and local regulations governing waste recycling or disposal. Your contracted waste hauler may be able to assist you with proper disposal options.
