Year 5 and still going strong

We make all sorts of past with this machine generally once a week and every batch is s excellent. Any reviewer that says it doesn't work I suspect is not doing it properly. If you weigh the ingredients with a scale it will work.

Yes, I recommend this product.

QuaIffy product but needs some expertise

Worth choosing the heavy duty version of this product. Well made but did take some time to get the pasta right. Experience with following the recipes.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Very poor quality pasta

I followed the instructions to the letter but the dough was sticky and would not extruder. When it did extrude, the pasta stuck together in a lump. There is no resting time which is required for the gluten to develop in pasta

No, I do not recommend this product.

Efficient pasta maker with creative shape options

I’ve had this pasta machine for 6 months now, and I’ve loved it. I can make pasta quickly, and in new shapes. I’m always thinking of the next shape I can try, or the next infusion colour (for example spinach makes it green). Overall it’s a fun activity, with relatively low maintenance clean up.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 9 of 9 Questions

Q: Can you use any kind of flour in the machine like whole wheat to make it healthier

2 Answers
  • A: You can use wheat flour if you like, you will need to be sure to use an egg in the dough. The recipe book included with the machine has a whole layout of different flours you can use to make different types of pasta best suited to this machine. You can also use buckwheat flour (with all purpose flour with an egg), which is one of the healthier options listed.

Q: When will more shaping discs be available? Many more discs are out in other countries (eg- Ramen, Udon) but can't be bought in North America.

  • A: More discs are indeed available (angel hair, pappardelle, tagliatelle, thick spaghetti), however I haven't seen them in stores as yet, only online. Philips states on their website they will become available, I'm guessing as they sell more units and the demand increases.

Q: Can it make noodles? I was looking for a noodle maker, but this machine came out. Just wondering is it possible to make noodles using flour? Is pasta the same as noodles?

  • A: If you do not use Semolina wheat, you have to call it noodles, not pasta.

Q: Can this be used to make gluten free pasta?

1 Answer
  • A: Yes you can make gluten free pasta. We would recommend you to use pre-mix flour, quinoa, or buckwheat while adding a thickener to act as “binder” such as Xanthan gum, guar gum, egg etc. Xanthan gum is a polysaccharide and is gluten-free, which acts as good binding agent to give pasta extra bounce. We would not suggest using coconut flour, almond flour or white rice flour as they don’t contain a binder.
