Not great for winter use. Plastic snapped and broke when cold

This is definitely a summer bird feeder. I am still using it but part of the plastic broke on the first day that I refilled it. I understand that it was cold and the plastic isn't super thick so I wasn't very surprised. I can still use it but if another piece of plastic breaks (on the top where it attaches to the base) it will end up in the garbage.

I got this for two reasons: feed birds and entertain the cat. It's working like a starving salesperson looking for their next commision! I've got chickadees every day and I've had to make a great deal of space around the living room window for the cat.

Q: I bought one of these yesterday and am struggling with opening it. The description says it is easy to open but I can't figure it out.

A: Thank-you for your question. Please note the following: To remove the top (roof) you grab the clear seed reservoir in one hand and with your other hand twist the top (roof) portion to the "left". It has a snag connection/fit. Before doing this turn the feeder upside down and you'll see 5 notches in the top that connect to base. To replace the top(roof) portion fill the feeder put the feeder on a flat surface so the seed doesn't come out and put the top onto the base (clear portion making sure they are perfectly flush then turn the top to the right and the male notches will slide into the receiving notches and lock the top and bottom together.
