Checked three; all have a crack in the stand :(

I bought this knife set, but the wooden stand had a slight crack. when I returned it, I checked two other sets and both had the same defect. I wonder if the wood cracks as it dries.
The knives looked solid and sharp, but I cannot speak how well they worked. I returned the set and am hoping to find an intact set at a different Canadian Tire, or a similar set elsewhere.
I love the design of the stand (it is sleek and does not take up much space on my counter, unlike a block.

Knives are incredibly sharp and the one piece metal design seems pretty much indestructible. Knives attach securely to the magnetic cutting block, and looks great on the counter.
