Just not that great

Normally I enjoy everything about Lego castles, but it felt like on this model that they hadn't finished designing it. There are a few elements that seem clumsy: for instance the way the separate parts join together and the way the studs are showing on the fake timber work. Also comparison to other 3 in 1 builds it didn't feel well priced. In fact the best thing about it was the mini figures. Unusually for me I took it apart immediately, threw away the instructions and used the parts for my own castle build - which is I suppose is what Lego should be about

Easy to build, lots of fun play features

Liked the castle build itself, the alternate builds are nice. Hated the brick built horses, just give us horses with saddles or barding. If more than one faction is going to be in the set give us more than one figure for additional play. My grandkids love to play with this set.

Castle Trials

I got the 3 in 1 castle set because I wanted to try out the different ones before I eventually built the castle (I.e. the main one). In doing this obviously i had to open up all the bags at once which wasn't the best. The mini figs are pretty solid as well. My issue, and yes I understand its a simple one, is that the main castle uses up almost all of the pieces but the other 2 builds have almost half the pieces still available, and almost 100 less instructions. I wish more effort was put into the other builds. Overall, its a fun set, me and my son really enjoy it.

Frustratingly close to a very good set

This is very close to being an excellent set in its own right, but it's held back by some flaws that shouldn't have made it to production. The brick-built horses are a swing and a miss; they should have used real ones instead and saved a couple hundred pieces. Brick-built animals really tend to not be very good, and these are no exception. They need to stop using this awful clip connection system for subsections of a build. It's always really flimsy and weak. Just go back to using the old technic brick and pin system from the 1980s; it is much more robust. There's a nice selection of minifigures, but they are very light on accessories and equipment. It wouldn't hurt to toss in a couple extra shields and some weaponry. It's a very nice set, but it could very easily have been a great set. It's also more expensive than it really ought to be; comparisons with the previous 3-in-1 castle are not going to terribly flattering even accounting for inflation.
