We have tried many different charcoal brands and Jealous Devil is the best for longest lasting and highest heat. A 3/4 full ring on a Weber Smokey Mountain can easily last all day and still reach 350 degrees at the end of a cook cycle to render the last bit.

Big lumps, clean burn, barely any ash. Exactly what you want.

Lives up to the XL name. Actual large chunks of lump, not a bag full of dust and pebbles like you get with some brands. Lights cleanly with no chemical smell, burns hot enough for a proper sear, and produces very little ash so airflow stays consistent through a long cook. On a Weber kettle this is the kind of charcoal that just gets out of your way and lets you cook.
