A Solid, Reliable, Trusted BBQ

I have long been a Master Chef Enthusiast, starting with our small portable BBQ which takes the abuse and keeps on going, but this BBQ sealed the deal for me. There is no embellishment in this review. In 2022 I had bought this BBQ brand new for our new home, and it worked flawlessly. Later in the year our friends were having a Barn Wedding and asked us to borrow our BBQ for their caterer as they were short one. On the day of the wedding, my Father-in-Law and I loaded the BBQ into the back of his pick-up truck, and I has asked him if we needed helping tying it down. He confidently said he was okay and so I went in to shave before the wedding. 30 minutes later I received a phone call. The BBQ had fallen out of the truck onto the 80 km/hr highway. I thought it was a joke. Passing cars ran over components of the BBQ, including the head shields, frame etc. We never saw the side burner grill again, but were able to recover all the other parts. He collected the pieces as best he could, delivered the BBQ to the wedding, and the caterers used it without a problem, electric lighter worked first try, and the wedding dinner continued as planned. The next day, myself and the groom, armed with two rubber mallets and some elbow grease, disassembled and hammered and bent all the pieces back into shape. All the heat shields had been flatted, the frame was badly bent. tTo our luck the Lid the surprisingly only lightly damaged. We managed to get everything back into a working state, re-assembled the BBQ, and it has been working like a dream every since. I can honestly say that in 2026, it still lights first try, still grills like a dream, and not a spec of rust on it even since we have stored it outside with a cover on it since purchase and incident. The frame may not be perfectly straight anymore, and we may have lost some integrity of most of the heat plates (likely due to them being ran over by automobiles then smacked by a hammer), but this BBQ is reliable, consistent, and has been feeding my family for 4 years without issue. This story alone has convinced friends and family of ours to buy a MasterChef. I have never had an issue with this BBQ that wasn't father-in-law caused, and I will swear by this brand. A few new heat shields would be great, but it has never let me down. Buy this unit, and tie down your own BBQs.

Bought this about 1 Tues ago. The back support/strengthening rods broke at welds. BBQ is now twisted and misshapen.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Can this unit be used with natural gas conversion kit?

  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. The Master Chef Discover 5 Burner Grill is NOT able to be converted to natural gas. It's CSA certified Liquid Propane ready only. A purchase of a natural gas conversion kit would not be able to be used on this unit as the Propane gas orifices are not removeable to swap out for Natural Gas orifices. There is a difference between a propane only valve assembly, and a convertible valve assembly. Unfortunately this grill is not able to convert to natural gas. These types of kits are not interchangeable because every valve has its own specification. Any attempt to convert to a different fuel source would void the warranty. Hope this helps!
