Balancing Valve

The parts did not work. It was a superceded part from what I used last time. This one did not fit or work. I'm still leaking. I'm not happy.

I’d like to provide a bit of clarification that may help get your system working properly again. Although the pressure balancing unit (PBU) has been redesigned, the updated version is fully retrofit‑compatible with earlier systems. If it did not address the leak, it is very likely because the PBU is not the component responsible for the issue you’re experiencing. The PBU only controls the hot/cold temperature balance—it does not control volume or prevent leaks. For a leak at the shower valve, the component that typically needs to be replaced is the mixer cap kit, part number K‑GP77759. This part controls the water volume and sealing surfaces within the valve body, and a worn mixer cap is the most common cause of persistent leaking. It sounds like you may have inadvertently replaced the pressure balance unit when the system actually needed a new mixer cap kit. If you have mix valve GP71969, you need new adapter kit 30320.

GP800820 is supposed to replace GP500520 . But GP500520 has large thick flat washers where the new thin O-rings are shown in this photo. (See attached photos below.) When used with mix valve GP71969, adapter plate kit 30320 is required. That kit comes with the necessary thick flat washers. (It's possible the other mix valves shown in the GP800820 instructions have the same leak problem.)
(If Kohler provided the thick flat washers with GP800820, all the negative reviews about leaks and having to use after market parts for GP500520 would stop.)

The replacement pressure balancing unit, K-GP800820, will include several O-rings which are different sizes. The provided installation guide has a section that allows you to size them correctly, to ensure they are being used in the correct locations. Easy to install, but unit is continuing to drip water.

Still has a very slight water leak. Although valve was cleaned and unit installed according to instructions the very slight water leak continues. Not sure what the next course of action needs to be.

This is easy to install and works great! My husband and I not handy at all.. in fact we just moved to a new house and the shower water stopped working right after we moved in... We watched some youtube videos and voila it works!
