The Garrison™ Photoelectric Smoke Alarm is a battery-operated smoke alarm with a 9-volt battery included. Photoelectric sensor technology will detect invisible fire particles associated with slow, smoldering fires and alert you with a loud 85-decibel alarm and a large, flashing LED light circle. The smoke alarm does not contain radioactive material and is harmless to the environment, and it will also remind you to change the battery when the low-battery indicator chirps. This alarm passed the newest UL 217 9th ed. Screws and anchors provided for easy installation.

Super Easy Installation.

I really like this smoke detector. I like that it is smaller than usual and has a sweeping tone for an alarm. Installing this detector was super easy. I reused one hole from old detector so I only had to drill one hole. Screwed in the base and twisted the detector on to secure it to the base. People are giving poor reviews talking about a tab having to be modified. But that tab is there so you cannot install the detector to the base without a battery installed. It's a safety feature.

Good price easy to install

Read the reviews about installation. I was playing around to see how it mounts and I couldn't for the life me understand how it works. Then when I installed the battery it mounted. The battery pushes up on the tab to enable it to turn and properly function. Remember, install the battery FIRST and you will have no problem with installation. The only downside is the unit is pretty small, so chances are the alarm you're replacing is older and bigger, leaving at least one exposed hole in ceiling.

I bought 4 Garrison smoke detectors for the bedrooms and hallway. There was no out-of-the box issues. The instructions for placement were clear. The "test" button worked fine on all 4 units.

Easy to Install

Despite most of the negative reviews, this product was really easy to install(less than 5 mins). Reviews saying they couldn't mount the detector to the base, installed the base upside down. Reviews saying they needed to cut or modify a tab to get it to fit, never installed the battery first. Simple operation with a 9v battery and 1 button. It works perfectly.
