Hi Shopper, sorry the display behavior wasn’t what you expected. If the RCWR7 is running on batteries, the backlight is typically designed to turn on only when a button is pressed to help conserve battery life.

A: The unit has a continuous backlit display. It can not be turned off. There is no other backlight setting.

Q: Does the weather alert function wake the radio up automatically if the local Environment Canada weather radio station issues an alert?

A: Hello, Yes it does, 1. Identify which weather radio channel transmits weather information for your specific location. Make sure the weather radio is tuned to that channel. 2. Turn the radio off. Press the NOAA button to turn the NOAA alert function on or off. The display shows the "WB" icon when NOAA alerts are active and the radio is off. When NOAA alerts are turned on, the weather radio will sound an alarm if there is a severe weather emergency in your area, then turn on the weather band channel for information about the alert. You can press button to turn it off.)
