Many, many problems with this design

Several things wrong with this attachment. Not just the one I got, but the design. It is SLOW at milling!!! It took about 1 hour to mill to get 4 cups of flour! Also, the little metal "pin" that is supposed to lock it in place came out, causing the whole attachment to spin off, and could have destroyed my tile counter, glass stovetop, and cookie jar. Thank God it didn't break anything. But all of my grain flew all over the floor, counter, sink, etc. What a waste. The attachment also wobbles because it isn't tight enough in the place where it gets attached. Also, the motor gets hot. I had to keep stopping the milling because I didn't want to burn out my motor. I tried to get a refund, but Kitchenaid said they won't give me a refund since I used it once. But how would I know that these things would be a problem unless I tried it out? I read about some of these issues on my FB group about milling, but not all of them. And I also thought that some people might just be too picky (like about it being slow---it's so slow, I almost can't see any flour falling into the bowl--and I had to keep stirring the grain to make sure it wasn't stuck. And had to hold my finger on the speed/on/off lever in case the attachment spun off again. So I stood there for over an hour while it milled VERY SLOWLY, and then didn't grind all of the grain at the end. I really want my money to be returned. I would rather spend much more on a counter top mill.

It mills grain

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been please with the flour I've milled from wheat berries. To my eye the flour is near-indistinguishable from other high quality whole wheat flours I've purchased. Milling is not as quick as I'd expected, and a little grain remains unmilled below the auger which matters for small quantities measured up front. As an add-on to an existing stand mixer this is much more affordable and counter space efficient than purchasing a dedicated mill appliance.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Supplements other Kitchenaid items beautifully

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this to from various grains for inclusion in my sausages, which I make using the Kitchenaid sausage maker, and also to make pasta, also made with the kitchenaid pasta making kits. The grain mill allows me to choose the grain size, a brilliant ability given the very limited grain sizes available in commercial stores, and also allows me to make amazing grain mixes for experimenting with torrent pasta flavours.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: can it grind eggshells?

  • A: It most likely can - I haven't tried. You would just need to crush the egg shells small enough to fit through the feeder. Make sure that they're completely dry before you put them in though. Moisture can damage the internals.

Q: Can I use this grain mill to coffee beans?

2 Answers
  • A: Hi Jhoanne, thank you for contacting the Whirlpool Central Advisors! The grain mill is designed to grind only low-moisture, non-oily grains. It is not designed to grind peanuts, coffee beans, soybeans, or sunflower seeds as their high oil or high-moisture contents can damage the grinding mechanism. I hope this helps. Have a great day! - Whirlpool Central Advisors

Q: Est ce bon pour graine de chia et graine de lin ?

1 Answer
  • A: Bonjour Titegrandmere. Merci pour votre question. Oui !
