ATV exhaust manifold repair

Bought the Extreme Heat JB Weld to repair a cracked exhaust manifold on my 2004 Polaris Sprtsman 700. I made sure to clean the repair area properly, applied the putty and waited a few hours prior to use. Worked out great. JB Weld is a fraction of the cost compared to a replacement manifold. Highly recommend.

Q: Could this work to glue a ceramic log broken in half from a propane gas fireplace

  • A: I don't think it would. It is much like muffler cement - it would cover a small hole, but doesn't really 'stick' things together like other epoxies. But worth a try.

  • A: I used it to repair an engine intake. I could work for the toaster but I would not use it on something that I am going to eat from.

Q: could this work for a crack to a wood stove

2 Answers
  • A: Yes it would likely work on a wood stove if the surface is a bit rough/porous. I used it to seal a gap between the exhaust manifold and the engine block. It stuck well to the manifold because it's rough cast iron but it didn't stick to the engine block because its smooth aluminum.

Q: Does it work to seal transmission fluid metal line?

2 Answers
  • A: I used it for a wood stove... not sure how it will work on a metal line with pressure in it... but there is something special already invented for a leak on break lines on different diameters. It's a metal system similar to house plumbing. Auto parts stores should have it, not sure if CT has it though

Q: 2 questions: 1. Will this work on stainless steel exhaust, 2. Why are there 2 pictures, 1 rating heat resistance at 1000 f and the other at 2400 f? Which is it?

1 Answer
  • A: The correct rating is 1000F after further testing. Will not adhere to SS. This needs to be TIG welded for the best repair

Q: Will it join two stainless steel pieces which will be in a high temperature environment

1 Answer
  • A: I went into the store on a bright sunny day...I encountered two beautiful dogs in the aisle and I bent down and stroked them gently. After that encounter I walked slowly through the paint section and was amazed at all the wonderful colors. Then I went to the pet food section and picked up some soft catfood for my putty cats. Finally upon leaving the store I remembered that I forgot to pick up some jb weld,. I guess I'll just have to wait patiently now until my next trip.

Q: Will the high heat paste work inside a snowmobile chain case.  Will the oil affect the JB Weld performance

  • A: No don't use this. Its water based and will dissolve. Use black RTV silicone. Either our Ultimate Black 32329 or an equivalent
