Heater not useable inside the car

I bought this because my interior heater doesn't work well. Thus requires a regular plug which my car has. However, once plugged in, it kept blowing a fuse everytime. I returned this heater and Canadian tire refused to give me a refund. They gave me a card to use as credit in the store. For someone who is living on a pension this was not acceptable. I am very disappointed with Canadian tire.

Questions

Q: Can I use this to keep the inside of my truck warm enough so my dogs can stay warm in the truck?  I have a Delta 1.3Kw power supply that I currently use to power an electric blanket and a heated pad to keep my pups warm.  Maybe this is better?

  • A: Thank you, Buns. It was EcoFlow DELTA Portable Power Station (110v) that we always carry when driving out with our Chis. We use it to power our portable fans in summer and heated blankets during winter to make our Chis comfortable in the car. How long does it have to run to heat up the car? We don't leave them out too long; we don't want them freezing if we need to leave them for half an hour to an hour when running errands.

Q: will using this for 10 hrs drain car battery?

  • A: No, this heater plugs into a 110 volt AC power supply - does not use the car battery to operate.  I have used these style of heaters for over 40 years in every single vehicle I have owned as I hate scrapping frost off windows.  They take some effort to install /learning curve to route the wire through the firewall but can be done with some determination/thought.  Do not use the heater with snow in the forecast as heater will melt the snow which will make your job to clean the vehicle more difficult.  Snow will prevent frost on windows, so in those situations just brush the snow off and good to go.  Cheers

Q: Mounting options I have an suv thats always parked out side can i just plug it in and have a extension cord come through the bottom of the door and have the unit just sit on the floor of my car?

  • A: Yes. I would personally set it on your dash though, gets it away from the carpet. However it doesn't really get hot enough to start anything on fire too quick imo. I just run the cord out my door and set it on my dash in my car.

Q: Is this safe? I have a service box on the back of my work truck. I have some flammable liquids in there (varsol, gas) is it safe to mount this heater back there to keep it warm and not have problems with starting my compressor?

  • A: This product is designed to be an interior car warmer and should not be used outside. Also would not advise using this to warm containers with flammable liquids.

Q: How well does it work on a timed circuit? Does the heater have any issues with being on a timed circuit? I park in an outdoor lot when at work and they cycle the power every 10 minutes (ie. 10 mins on, 10 mins off).

  • A: I use this heater on a electric timer at home and don't have any issues with it going on/off on a cycle.

Q: Safe for heating small space rather than car? Can I use a car heater to heat compartment (4 feet tall, 8 feet wide and 4 feet deep). Needs to have thermostat and be economical. Well insulated.

  • A: Provided the area you are describing is completely enclosed the our interior car warmer can be effectively used to heat this space.

Q: is this safe? can i leave it for more than 8 hours? can i just put it on a thick piece of hardwood or granite insted of mounting it on my car?

  • A: This past winter I left it on 24/7, when not using the car. This is my second one and find it works great, even when its -40c. Windows clear and inside warm enough to sit in till the car heat cuts in at this temp. Jason337

Q: Can it be connected to the car battery? Can the Pyroil heater be connected directly to the car for power? Do you need an inverter to do this?

2 Answers
  • A: I think the intention is that you plug it into your house outlets rather than use an inverter. It would be a significant drain on your battery and you might end up with a warm car that won't start!
