Bought this to maintain my Miata battery during winter storage. It’s early for a review but it seems to be working well. Ask me in 3 years if it still works.

Q: Can I start my vehicle while this product is hooked up to the battery and charging or would that wreck the charger? I have it installed as a maintainer and want to be able to still use my command start while plugged in to this charger.

  • A: At no point did I mention anything about a booster. Why would I want to? So I don't have to go outside, walk around my building just to unplug the charger before coming back to my place to remote start my vehicle. That would just create a lot more effort. I figured it would be no problem since the charger would just push 1.5 amps into the battery once I start the vehicle, taking a small load off the alternator. Thank you for your quick response CanadianTireAutoPartsTeam!

Q: I charged my car battery to 100% reading 12.6V and disconnected the product. I reconnected it to leave it in maintain mode until later but now it just shows the amber warning light but I'm sure the connectors are fine. How can I troubleshoot this?

  • A: Thanks for the responses, I was able to troubleshoot that there was a connector interruption. Using a voltmeter, I found that there was voltage from the adapter to its connectors, but when I attached the clamping extension, there was no voltage detected at the clamps end. Leaving a small gap between the connector and extension I was able to troubleshoot that the positive side was not touching and therefore was causing the issue. It may have been caused when pushing the extension into the connector, if its not perfectly straight, it may bend or cause an issue with the connection. Just wanted to post in case anyone else found themselves with just an amber light and wasn't sure how to figure out the cause.

Q: Will this help my car if it is having trouble starting in the winter but not completely dead?

2 Answers
  • A: If used regularly, it would help keep a charge in your battery, but wether or not it would solve your starting problem would depend on what exactly was causing the problem, a dead or seriously depleted battery being only one possibility. If the battery was at the end of its life, it is doubtful that a charger/maintainer would be a satisfactory long term solution.
