Thank your sharing your experience. For faster charging, a charge rate of maximum 20 amps may be used. The minimum recommended charge rate is 4 amps and an ideal charge rate is from 8 to 15 amps.

Motormaster is a terrible battery

Garbage product...I have had nothing but problems with Motomaster batteries, especially their Nautilus series...these dont last more than a few years. Brought one last year, barely used it...checked SOH, 56%...returned it under warranty. Manager straight up told me that these batteries were junk, with so many returns. Took the new battery home...charged, ran a diagnostic on it...SOH 53%...thank you to the manger who simply gave me my money back.

Thank you for your feedback. Rest assured, MotoMaster Nautilus, in fact all MotoMaster batteries are engineered for quality by one of the world’s most respected lead-acid battery manufacturers. As it relates to deep cycle battery longevity, while we don’t know your specific application/set up, some of the most common root causes of frequent replacement are extreme deep cycling (i.e. insufficient capacity/more batteries needed in the system), frequent undercharging and lack of electrolyte maintenance. Based on your reference to a SOH %, we assume you are using a digital conductance tester. As these types of testers rely on measuring resistance, be sure you are testing from the automotive battery post. It is made if lead alloy. If you test from the steel stud you will always get an erroneous “bad battery” result due to the resistance inherent to the steel material. Thank you.

Not sure yet about the product itself because when I got the battery to the trailer, it didn’t have a charge. So I’m having to use my neighbours slow trickle charger to see if it will charge and hold that charge.

  • A: We would require you to provide more information about the type, voltage and capacity of battery the manufacturer, Gallagher, specifies in their instructions. Generally, an electric fence would use a much smaller battery - an SLA battery in the 4 to 10 Amp hour range. For perspective, this MotoMaster Nautilus battery is 75 Ah, so while it certainly would work, it's overkill.
