    Disappointed in product

I am in the process of finishing cabinets, I have put 2 coats on them and am not happy at all. I am not getting the finish I am trying to achieve. Almost 2o years ago I used the same product or so I am being told from the store in which I purchased this product. I am using now the premium oil fast drying polyurethane warm semi gloss and before I used the fast-drying polyurethane superior durability clear semi- gloss. What I am trying to figure out has the product changed that much?

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for your question. The "warm" will refer to the oil based polyurethanes we offer in our line of products. The oil based will amber and add a "warm" appearance to the wood. This is a label update and the product itself has not been changed. Sincerely, L.T., Customer Support Specialist

Quality, predictable results, Water clean up

Most of the complaints I see about this product have to do with application errors or inexperienced finishers..I have used this product for years and it's excellent. It has the color benefits of a solvent based urethane (yes that;s a PLUS) especially on wood like Cherry, Walnut, Mahogany, etc...I spray this product with an inexpensive HVLP spraygun and once adjusted properly it gives excellent results, dries quick, flows out well....even pads well on repairs or smaller projects. The best part is clean up with water!

    Yes, I recommend this product.

I bought 3 gallons of this in december. Opened one of the up and poured it in quart cans. Used a quarter of 1 can to put a first coat on some plywood shelves. Everything went as expected. Sanded them after 6 hours to put a second coat on. Opened the can again to get started and noticed the poly is quite a bit thicker than it was earlier. Like spreading molassis on my plywood. would not level out. Left brush marks in my wood. Do not buy this garbage.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for your review of the Fast Drying Polyurethane. The thick skin which developed is natural, as the product is designed to dry by evaporation. If there is airspace in the can or container, it will evaporate into that air as it does when on the surface. There will also be a more solid seeming material which settles in the can-this is flattening agent and is what causes the product to dry with a softer sheen. Once the skin is removed, mix up the rest of the product by stirring.  We recommend a test area, if the product dries to an acceptable finish then you can use the product for the rest of the application. Dries in the can even when sealed!

I purchased a can about a year ago, used some from the can on a couple of projects. Sealed it fully, and kept it in a climate controlled garage. When I opened the can today, there was a thick hard shell on top! I broke through it with a screwdriver, and the entire rest of the can was the consistency of honey mixed with jello. Obviously unusable. I don't understand how the product dried out (cured?) when the can was fully sealed and there was almost no air above the product in the can. If you aren't going to do a huge project and use it all at once, don't buy anything other than a tiny can. Apparently it goes bad very quickly.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Fast Drying Polyurethane. We apologize you had an issue with the product after using it, unfortunately once the product has been opened and air gets in the container, it will thicken up. Ideally we recommend to purchase the amount of product needed for your project to avoid any issues. If you would like to discuss your review further, please contact us directly at 1-800-523-9299 or info@cbgbrandreview.com. Sincerely, L.T., Digital Care Team

Q: Can it be applied over oil based finish?

    1 Answer
    • A: Hello. Over our oil-based finish, yes. If it is from another company, our product would have to be tested for compatibility. Make sure the existing finish is in sound condition and it is not peeling or chipping. Sand the existing finish with 220 and remove the dust completely before application.
