    Switch is a failure point

Lasted for less than an hour of actual work. Sliding switch is broken. I dis-assembled it to check for contact, and one of the very tiny weak looking copper slider contacts is broken right off of the assembly.

    Worked great....while it lasted.

The first 8-10 hours of use....worked great. Then, the plastic variable speed control became erratic....had to hold it down a bit. Today, it finally died completely...no motor noise...nothing. Total usage : about 12 - 15 hours use. Final verdect : not reliable. Buy Dremel for reliability. I bought mine about 5 years ago so they'll probably refuse to replace it.....we'll see.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Power switch broke first day

Was doing a simple wood project, using the sanding bit. The power switch arm on the inside is plastic and broke the first day I used it. When you slide it from off to on, and it goes through the different speeds, it stops dead when you lock it in to full power. Would not recommend, to much plastic in the manufacturing.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Good performance, only adequate durability

This tool worked well for me for the first couple of months. When I changed the bit, the plastic chuck-stop, the device you press in to lock the the chuck so you can tighten or loosen the collet broke. The chuck-stop pin is metal and the chuck-stop button that holds it is plastic. Once this breaks the tool is nearly worthless. With the amount of torque normally put on for a bit, using plastic is a decision to construct something not intended to last. If you want a reliable tool, you may consider going elsewhere. Canadian Tire did exchange the tool without fuss, but this is an ongoing weak spot. The plastic button should be replaced by a metal one.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Can I get replacement collets? I enjoy my two rotary tools however I wear out the one quarter inch collets that come with the units and can not find replacement collets that will fit. Is there somewhere that I can order spare collets for this product? Product #54-1250-0

    • A: Yes, they are sold at various hardware stores, call the canadian tire tech support if you have trouble finding the exact replacement part. I suggest tightening the locking ring down a bit more if you see your collet getting worn out.

Q: additional accessories Are there additional accessories besides the various bits that are able to be purchased? Such as the 90 degree attachment or other such accessories?

    1 Answer
    • A: You are able to purchase additional accessories under the Dremel brand. Also you may be able to get some from the manufacturer of the tool you have. Look in the owner's manual & call the toll free number there.
