This is a very useful gadget to have around the house for if you think particular light sockets aren't working properly. It spares you from having to find some other appliance in the house, unplug it, and then plug it into the outlet you suspect is not working to test it.

Q: Can this be used in the winter to test outdoor plug outlets so I can determine if the plug works for plugging in my car's block heater? Is there one that can be used during the winter?

A: I own Cumberland Home Inspections in Amherst, NS. I have this receptacle tester and have used it during the winter months to test outdoor plugs.. it works perfect.

Q: Does it work with 220V electricity as well?

A: No, as it simply wouldn't physically fit in a 220V receptacle. This tool is meant to test standard (or split) 110V household receptacles. If you examine the tool you will see that it plugs into a standard outlet (std. 3-prong configuration)
