Waste of money at any price....

Don't know how this product ever passed the quality testing that CT purports to do on their products. I'm a contractor by trade, saw this carbide grit set on sale and decided to give it a try on a bathroom ceramic tile job I'm doing... 1st off you will need to use a carbide drill bit to start a pilot hole as included pilot bit not sharp enough to cut tile. This would have been fine, however the carbide on the face of the hole saw immediately stripped off leaving the hole saw completely useless. Tried 2 of them in the kit with the same result, then gave up and went back to the used diamond hole saw I had on hand. Tool was used properly with a water cup to cool and lubricate the cutting process... Product should be withdrawn from market, it doesn't in any way perform as advertised...

No, I do not recommend this product.

Works if you switch out the pilot bit

I bought this on sale primarily for the cutting blades. The hole saws were a bonus but I had really low expectations based on all the negative reviews. The bad: It took about 25 minutes just to get the pilot bit through, then another 5 minutes to cut the hole in porcelain tile. I used putty and water to keep the hole saw cool. The good (or at least acceptable): For the second hole, I decided to use my own masonry bit as the pilot. That worked well. Five minutes for the pilot plus 5 minutes for the hole. Ten minutes total, and saved a bunch of $$. So I recommend this, even for porcelain, if you have your own pilot masonry bit and you don't want to spend $$ on a real diamond hole saw that you'll only use once.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Would rate it lower if I could

Even on sale this set is not worth owning. The 'diamond grit' on the hole saws looks like silver glitter - and glitter doesn't cut through ceramic or other tile very well. This is far from a quality tool set.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 2 of 2 Questions

Q: Can this kit be used to installl door locks on wood doors?

3 Answers
  • A: I would say no, as the bits needed for wood are a lot different. The bits on this product are diamond tipped and arranged to "grind" the material as opposed to "cutting" it. Secondly, these bits lack any mechanism to remove the debris and so they really could not be used with wood. Thirdly, these bits are designed to be "cooled" in order to remove any heat build up during cutting...

Q: Can it cut stainless steel? I need to cut a hole for a faucet in a sink.

  • A: NO, carbide grit hole saws will only cut softer materials... Need a bimetallic hole saw for stainless preferably lower speed with a lubricant to dissipate heat so as not to ruin temper of cutting surface... Heat dulls any drill bits...
