Q: Battery Is the battery for the max the same as the non max. because I have the drill the saw and the rachet in the older 12 style. and a whole bunch of batteries.

A: Nope, as a new 12 V Lithium ion MAX IS very different . The item does not uses the same battery each battery is different by design. The shape , height, insert slot, the contact point and the charger were all different and not interchangeable. Only look the same with a quick glance.

Q: chuclk compatibility? what is compatible with a 1/3`` drive chuck??? is there an adapter for standard drill bits or must one get a whole new set to fit? 1/4`` drive hex won`t fit I assume?

A: The 12V Drill 1/3 Drive chuck is a type error and should read ¼” not 1/3”. This is the same type of 1/4” quick connect used on an Impact Driver or a Screwdriver and utilizes the same type of accessories.
