    Did not last

I bought this router in the spring of 2015. It seemed to work ok while it lasted. I only used this maybe 6 timed and it has worn out, I thing it is the brushes on the motor and the bearings. Being a plunge router, a micro depth adjustment would have made this easier to use. I expected to last longer than it did.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Collet fit 1/4" shanks only

Router is great, but contrary to the fixed router or the one with the digital display, this one has a 1/4" collet, making it only compatible with 1/4" shanks. So it basically mean that if you get the large mastercraft router bits set, this mastercraft router might not allow you to use all the mastercraft bits included. So yes, it's a great router, but I wish I'd spent $10 more to get the Digital one who's compatible with 1/4" and 1/2" shanks. I decided to remove 3 stars to this product since it's not compatible with attachments of the same brand. (And should be no excuse since even the cheaper fixed router is)

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Complete starter set

This router with its accessories will handle all DIY items you may need or want to create. This is a great starter set. Creating corner rounds, trim, slots, etc.. once you get accustom to the product it is very easy to add bits that meet your needs.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Good DIYer tool

This router has 2 based - a fixed and a plunge router base. Good tool to start learning to use a router. Once you get started, you will want to go and get additional router bits such as a round over bit, flush bits and TNG bits.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Q: Does this router plunge?

    • A: Yes, it plunges. The spring return is pretty strong so you should use the plunge guides for precision.

    • A: It comes with its own edge guide.

Q: can you use this as a fixed router without a table? drive it around edges?

    2 Answers
    • A: Sure - in fixed position it works like any fixed router. The bushings allow for guidework around any piece and the unit also comes with an edge guide.

Q: Can you install a 1/2in. collet and nut on this router?

    2 Answers
    • A: No - it has only a 1/4" collet. No way I can see to swap out for a 1/2".

Q: how do you attach the adaptor to the base? Can someone provide details on how to put the brushing and adapter together, and then install them onto the base. I find the screws maybe too short when the adpater is installed.

    • A: See my review of the unit - this is the most frustrating part of this device - you have to use the nuts in the dust collection system to connect the adapter plate and the bolts are pretty short - you may need to really force this together to get a bite. Then if you are using a dovetail with a bushing that is smaller than the outside diameter of your bit, you can't get at the collet nut. I'd recommend you try to find a couple of small machine screws and nuts and leave out the dust collection unit.

Q: will this router fitmy wolfcraft 490 router table

    • A: It will fit any standard table, but you may have to cut a base from plexi or acrylic and drill holes to fit your machine base.

Q: Is there a plate that has to be bought for the bushings that come with this kit work with the router?

    2 Answers
    • A: There is an adapter included for the bushings. Good for all the bits that come with the unit - not so good for other bits such as dovetails or complex rail and stile bits.

Q: Cutter Adjustment while attached to table. How do you easily adjust the depth of cut while this item is attached to a router table? I find it difficult to unlock the lever and fight with it up and down to adjust fractions of inches for depth.

    1 Answer
    • A: Sorry but this router does not allow the quick height adjustment from the tabletop when it is used with a router table. Please adjust the height manually.

Q: Does this work with table 0546841 ? I recently purchased the table 0546841 but am having some trouble in getting the height adjusted so that my bits are aligned with the top of the table. Maybe i'm doing something wrong.

    1 Answer
    • A: If you use the router by mounting on the bottom of the router table, please hold the housing of the router and push it (up or down) to the height you want to adjust. Let us know if you have any further question. Thank you.

Q: Can I get a replacement nut for the guide bushings? I have misplaced the nut for the guide bushing set that came with this router and can't find a replacement.
