Magellan RM6230-LM - GPS and Car Cam

Good concept - POORLY completed. The GPS is OK - EXCEPT THAT there is a huge lag when entering addresses AND, to enter a postal code you have to drill down to a sub-menu - obviously made for Americans as the ZIP is at the top menu.... The Car Cam is terrible. It is on a long mounting stem and suffers from jumpy video from any/every bump in the road - soft suspension reduces but doesn't eliminate the shakes. Needs to be mounted in the middle of the windshield to use the 120 field of view. Makes it hard to read the GPS as turning/angling it changes the field of view. Have to use the Magellan player to export to desktop hard drive. Night recordings are POOR at best and TERRIBLE if any moisture/precipitation. The Time Code is not local but GMT - which is 3 hours out now and will be 4 hours out with daylight savings time. BOTTOM LINE - BUY A SEPARATE CAR CAM WITH GOOD NIGHT VISION AND OVER 120 FIELD OF VIEW - say 140 degrees

Not suited for Canada at the moment.

If you zoom out and are able to see both Canadian and US highways/roads you'll immediately notice a glaring fault with this GPS - it will not display Canadian road numbers, yet US roads are clearly identified. This is true at any zoom level.

Good Unit - Poor Update Support from Magellan

I purchased this unit because it has lifetime map updates AND a dash cam. I 'tested' the unit while in the CTC parking lot. Setup to get the unit 'running' was easy. Finding a location for the unit was very difficult because the supplied suction-cup holder does not offer a configuration suitable for my vehicle. Got home and tried to link the unit to my laptop so that I could review the video. #This is actually done by physically transferring the micro SD card#. But, I also wanted to charge the unit, so I used the USB cable. After jumping through the 'usual' 'new hardware hoops' on my laptop #Windows 7 - 64 bit#, I got to the point where my unit said that a map update was available. It has proved next to impossible to download. Two chat sessions with Magellan #and two different methods to achieve the update# ended with the equivalent of "you can't get there from here". Eventually, these obstacles will be resolved, so I'll hold onto the unit.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Warranty Purchased this in Nov 2014. Now it does not work anymore, it does not turn on most of the times, when it does the screen turns all white after a short time. What is the warranty on this product?
