    Trash

Have had this unit for three months now and can honestly say it is trash!Like many others I bought this unit for the GPS and back up camera.First the GPS is slow and at times does not connect to the the network at all...With the camera plugged in it is even worst!!! As for the camera yes easy to put in depending on the car and does seem to have a good stong signal. How ever does it work NO!! It will connect about 50% of the time and when it does will flicker back and forth to the back up screen and GPS..Useless!!! Mirrors are still your best friend.....

No, I do not recommend this product.

Présentement installé sur un camion 12 roues. Le GPS est très long a acquérir le signal au départ, + de 5 min. La camera de recul fonctionne une fois sur 2. Le signal semble faible. Par contre image est nette.

    Well Made - Minor Concerns

After 4 months of operation I've formed the opinion that the Magellan 5255 works very well but I have two minor concerns. 1) Occasionally, the time it takes to 'Acquire Satellite Signals' is unusually long compared to other units. I find this is really only an issue when I park in a garage - where the signal is lost for an extended period of time. 2) The camera does not include superimposed directional lines, which can be used to establish the relative distances of the objects in the camera's field of view.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Does this GPS' back up camera function have parking/backup guide-lines? The "Yada Digital Wireless Backup Camera with 4.3-in Dash Mount" has green, yellow and red parking/backup guide-lines. Does the backup camera function on this GPS also have such parking guide-lines? I haven't seen any evidence that it does.

    • A: Unfortunately, there are no parking guide lines with this camera.

Q: How is this unit's backup camera's night vision? How well does this device's backup camera work at night? Does it have lights? I couldn't see any in the photos/

    • A: There are no lights on the camera. I find the image to be "ok" at night, in the city, with lots of street lights. In the country it doesn't work very well at night.

Q: Does this unit allow navigating to an intersection, i.e., where two streets cross? My old Tom Tom allows this but a Garmin I was able to try didn't. Does this unit?

Q: is the windshield mount included in the package?

    2 Answers
    • A: Yes. The Magellan 5255T-LM includes a windshield mount. I have never used it, as I found that $2 of velcro tape provided a sturdy and neater installation right above the 12-volt outlet/cigarette lighter in my vehicle.

Q: does the camera work in winter weather the installation instructions state that the operating range is 20C to 75C for the camera and 0C to 50C for the transmitter. The majority of the year in Canada, temperatures are lower than 20C which would render the camera useless.

    1 Answer
    • A: Thank you for your question. The camera is rated ipx4 which is weather proof. It can be rained on but cannot sit submerged in water. The operating range is 0C to 50C and may not operate properly in freezing conditions. For any additional questions please contact our Guest Services department at 1-800-707-9971.

Q: Can you add another camera to existing unit.

    1 Answer
    • A: There is only on AV input on the GPS, therefore only one camera can be used at any given time. If you have two camera’s and two receivers you would have to unplug one for the other in order to see the second camera.
