I compared my container to the current models and realized mine was old stock . They had made a correction to how the lid seals. The new lids friction fit into the top making a much more reliable seal. The old ones clamped down the top and the lid at the same time leaving gaps in the lid seal.. I will admit that "airtight" is a somewhat dubious term and even on the most expensive types, it would seem to mean that air will not circulate in and out but that is good enough to keep bugs out. I you can squeeze on any of these type of containers, air will exhaust air out but if the seal is half decent, it will take a couple of second to suck air back in . My lid clamped down to try and seal both the lid and top of the container and with a plastic lid, that is never going to happen. In fact, when it clamped down, it made a further mess of sealing the lid. properly. Very small ant like bugs grew into the hundreds if not thousands as I thought the rice might have been contaminated. However, I put the container into the freezer for a couple of days but the bugs still kept appearing again. So, 1 star because my older model sucked horribly at making a seal and let small bugs in. It could never have been airtight as per manufacturers claims. The newer improvement seems to have made a major change, I can squeeze the container and it takes a couple of seconds to suck the air back in but how can I trust this product ever again?
