One of the hardest installations

I have a 2009 Scion tC and it took us a good 2 hours just to get the first one in and figure out what we we’re doing. Besides the dreadful installation, they sound good.

Yes, I recommend this product.

  • A: You need to mod. The best way is to do it, is to mod the factory speakers and re use the mount portion of the speaker.

  • A: The 2.3 rating is an average. The important number is the lowest ohm's the speaker will drop to. JBL doesn't list this spec. I don't know why because its something you really need to know.

Q: What is the resonant frequency of these speakers?

  • A: Unfortunately, we don't have this information. The speaker does not require a box, it is designed for a free-air installation. However, a small sealed box will tighten up the low-end a bit and will improve the overall sound quality. Building a sealed box that is just big enough to hold the speaker, or as big as .25 cubic feet, will do just fine.

Q: If I am hooking my GX602 speakers up to an amplifier, does it use the 2 ohm rating or 4 ohm rating. Your description is confusing. true 4 ohm? 2.3 ohm impedance? 3 ohm voice coils?

  • A: Its nominal impedance is 2.3 ohms. It compensates for the undergauged speaker wiring found in many of today's cars, and make the most of every watt your amplifier or head unit can deliver. But if you're using thicker gauge wires it will run between 2.3 and 3 ohms.

Q: I purchased 4 of these to replace the stock speakers in my 2007 GMC behind a Sony XAV-X100 and these sound awesome.   I recently purchased a Pioneer GM-D9605 5 channel amp to add to this setup. It is rated at 75 watts x 4 @ 4ohms.  is this too much power?

Originally posted on jbl.com

  • A: Our GX602 speakers are rated at 50 watts per channel. 75 watts should not be a problem as long as you do not push the amp to the hilt. As long as the amp is putting out a clean signal the speaker should work fine. Should the amp clip or distort you will risk blowing the speakers.
