Q: Can the GTR-601 amplifier power 2 jbl gt5-12 subwoofers?

  • A: Our JBL GT5-12 subwoofers have 275W RMS and 4 ohms each. You can wire the two subwoofers in order to have 2ohms and they can pull out 600W from the GTR-601, which can power both subwoofers decently. Q: Is this amp capable of running 8ohm subwoofers? If so what would be the wattage output at 8ohms?

Originally posted on jbl.com

  • A: The GTR-601 is not rated to run 8 ohm subwoofer since the wattage output would be really low and would not have enough power for the Bass to produce sound to give it a 'Bassy' feeling.

Q: Hi ! Does this gtr-601 works in 4ohm 380w rms with a magnat subwoofer 4 ohm 400w rms ?? Doesnt is it ( AMP) too low power for subwoofer , and then will gonna be distorsions over 75%-80% amp volume ? Thanks a lot !  Have a nice DAY jbl entire team !!!

  • A: Hi, There would not be any problem with having the Amp power up the Sub since the Sub can handle 400W. It would depend on the source as distortion normally is an indicator for you to turn your volume down a little. There are separate level controls for the subwoofer(not all subwoofers have one) and the amp. Try minimizing the knob for the sub and check if that does the trick.

Q: I am buying 2 JBL CLUB WS 1200. What would be the best amp to run these 2 subs

Originally posted on jbl.com

  • A: You can run the 2 JBL Club WS 1200 with the JBL GTR-601 amplifier. The GTR-601 will drive 600WRMS through all the channels and since you will be using 2 Subs it will be distributed evenly with 300W per sub. The Club WS 1200 can handle 250W with a 1000W peak power handle, so as long as you don't push the volume up to the hilt the speaker should be good.
