Buttons randomly stop working

Have had to buy 2 new ones in three years as the buttons just stop working and can't turn heat on when winter comes. waste of money

Q: How to you switch from heat to A/C. Our old one has a button for heat and cool.

A: Select menu Cycle through mode until heat or cool is selected...Push menu button again to initiate your choice Possibly you may have to run a wire to your furnace for a/c After my new furnace install this thermostat worked fine.

A: You should be able to use it. I have mine set up in this fashion without issue. Note where your wires are currently connected before you removed them from the old one.
